Highland Eyes, and Body of Light
from Walker Blaine
The CD released in 2003 by Walker Blaine – Highland Eyes – and his newest CD, Body of Light – Songs of Practice Study and Pilgrimage, are both now available online through iTunes in Europe, Canada and the USA.
Half of the Internet sales of Highland Eyes will go to the Konchok Foundation and Pullahari Monastery, the main seat of His Eminence the fourth Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche.
Robyn Traill did an amazing joy playing the instrumentals, along with producing and arranging the music on both discs. Please come listen to the samples at iTunes, or at Walker’s website, highlandeyes.com.
The title track of Highland Eyes is available for free at the Chronicle Project website, where an interview with Walker Blaine is also posted.
Both CDs are also available via mail order through Samadhi Store at samadhicushions.com
Buddha Jazz from Dr. Ron Holleman
Written by Mary Roberts
Fort Collins, Colorado Shambhalian Sue Shapiro-Holleman’s husband, Ron Holleman, has composed and conducted Shambhala Suite. The piece has just been released on Buddha Jazz, the debut CD by Ethos West Chamber Orchestra. Inspired by Sue and other buddhist friends, Holleman’s composition consists of five movements entitled: Dharma Bums, The Road to Enlightenment, Waltz for Sue, Sky Dance, and the rambunctious, knee-slapping Sakyong Samba.
With Sky Dance, the composer honors Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche. Waltz for Sue is dedicated to the composer’s favorite buddhist.
In a recent concert, the orchestra played Sakyong Samba as the last movement of the suite and the audience was toe-tapping, finger-snapping, head- bopping happy and ready to jump up and shimmy down the aisle as if Carnival had teleported from Brazil to northern Colorado for a few delirious moments.
The CD also includes original composition by orchestra member and pianist Bob Montgomery, Vivaldi’s Concert in C Minor and the third movement of Suite for Strings by Frank Bridge. The CD is available by going to www.ethoswest.org or www.cdbaby.com or calling Dr. Ron Holleman (in the United States) at 1-970-482-4099.
