Film Series on Women of Tibet
The Great Mother postcard

The Great Mother postcard

Announcing a series of three films about the women of Tibet:

The first two films in the series are Women of Tibet: Gyalyum Chemo: The Great Mother and Women of Tibet: A Quiet Revolution. These unique one-hour documentaries explore stories of the Tibetan struggle for peace, freedom, justice and human rights and the dynamic power off women within the political, social, and spiritual realms.

The first film, Women of Tibet: Gyalyum Chemo – The Great Mother, tells the compelling life story of Dekyi Tsering, the mother of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, also known as the Great Mother of Tibet. A fascinating exploration of the Great Mother archetype, the film has aired repeatedly on PBS stations nationwide since its television premiere in April 2006.

The second film, Women of Tibet: A Quiet Revolution, received its national television premiere on public television stations in May 2008. It is a timely chronicle of one of the great movements of nonviolent resistance in modern history when, in 1959, thousands of unarmed Tibetan women took to the streets of Lhasa to oppose the violent Communist Chinese occupation of their country. For the first time on film, three generations of Tibetan women and His Holiness the Dalai Lama recount this remarkable story of survival and how these women have ultimately become important architects and builders of the new Tibet in exile.

You can learn more about the films (including the upcoming third film in the series: Women of Tibet - The Sacred Marriage) and purchase copies (this supports the making of the third film) here: http://www.womenoftibet.org
