Today His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang Karmapa joins delegates from 46 countries at the TED conference in India, titled “The Future Beckons.” The Karmapa is schedule to speak on Saturday, November 7 during the closing session, “Within You, Without You.” The TedIndia Conference is taking place in Mysore from November 4 to 7.

TED Talks are dedicated to “ideas worth spreading” from a wide variety of disciplines, such as technology, the arts, business, science and spirituality. Speakers have included Al Gore, Isabel Allende, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, and Bob Thurman.

The first day of the conference is being broadcast live at the India Times, starting just as this piece is being published: http://ted.indiatimes.com/.

The TEDIndia Conference is described as follows:

“At a time of economic uncertainty, one thing remains clear. There’s an unmistakable shift of influence to the east. It’s not just about IT outsourcing. Increasingly India, China and the rest of Asia are making their presence felt globally in new technologies, design brilliance, cultural and economic innovation.”

Jill Bolte’s Stroke of Insight
A neuroanatomist’s story of her glimpse of nirvana during a massive stroke. A stunning account of the slippage from rational thought into the euphoria of nonduality.

Bob Thurman says we all can be Buddhas
A discussion of the interconnectedness of life and seeing through the delusion of being separate entities. Thurman suggests that the mass awareness produced by technology could help us to get out of our skins and become buddhas, filled with compassion.
