Demonstration of Space, Form, and Energy

In this video series, Marcia Shibata demonstrates the principles of the practice of flower arranging.

At the recent Shambhala Art Intensive in Los Angeles, Kado practitioner and teacher, Marcia Shibata did an Ikebana demonstration of the principles of Space, Form and Energy, which — in Ikebana — are referred to as Heaven, Earth and Humanity. This series is offered in three videos.

Marcia Shibata began her study and practice of both Buddhism and Ikebana at Karme Chöling in 1974, when she became the student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Tibetan Buddhist meditation master and Ikebana master of the Sogetsu school. Ms. Shibata’s main interest with flower practice is to study and teach how it is a path of meditation or Kado, and how Kado can be a guide for a person’s life.

Shambhala Art’s purpose is to explore the creative process and the product we call art, from the viewpoint of a meditative discipline. It is a viewpoint that encourages us to see things as they are, rather than just how we think or imagine they are. The program is based on the Dharma Art teachings of the late Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the founder of Shambhala Buddhism, Shambhala International, and Naropa Institute.
