Letter from the Sakyong Wangmo, Dechen Chöying Sangmo

3 September 2010
Halifax

Dear Shambhalians,
We have just celebrated the third week of Jetsün Drukmo’s birth. She is doing extremely well, and Rinpoche and I are noticing changes in her day by day. It has truly been a blessing and delight to have Jetsün Drukmo in our life.

As for myself, I’m resting and recovering well. Giving birth was a powerful, intense, and beautiful experience. I was fortunate to have support from Rinpoche, my sister, my mother, as well as a few key students who were part of my birthing team.

I also felt that my practice helped tremendously in this whole process. I reflected how birth is one of the most transformative experiences in life, and how precious one’s mother is. I was deeply touched by the recent visit of Lady Diana. Her interaction with Jetsün Drukmo was delightful. Also I felt tremendous love and support from all of you.

Even though this has been an intensely personal experience for Rinpoche and me, I know that it has been a pivotal and joyous occasion for our whole community. I have received many messages of how the birth of our daughter has touched you all.

It has been delightful to see Jetsün Drukmo smiling and playing with her father, our Sakyong. He is so warm and loving towards her, and is profoundly moved by this experience. I feel constantly the blessings of her grandfather, the Dorje Dradül.

Even though she is just still a baby, she already has a tremendous effect on our Shambhala world. She is a good reminder of all of our goodness, and I have a deep feeling that she will benefit the world.

Much Love to All,

Sakyong Wangmo, Dechen Chöying Sangmo

  1. Dear Sakyong and Sakyong Wangmo,

Adrian and I are so happy for you both, your families and our sangha to have Jetson Drukmo join in all our lives.

My heart is so happy to think of you bonding as a family. Khandro, It was very good to hear your mother was able to be a part of the birthing team. I am sure it was a blessed experience for her to be able to participate in this continuing circle of life with you both.
May you all be blessed. We look forward to hearing more about your lives as time goes on.

Rinpoche, I can only imagine your delight in the birth of your daughter. You have contributed so much in your life, it is heartwarming to know you have such a lovely family to share your love with.

After having studied and practiced the Longchen Nyingtik for many years, I told Dzigar Kontrul I wanted to continue the Scorpion Seal teachings with you and he has decided not to give me any further retreat instructions. It seems quite a Karmic switcharoo. I had accumulated 7 months of Rigdzin Dupa sadhana retreat practice and had been told the next step would be Dzogchen instruction for retreat.
I guess you are stuck with me for now Sir.

    Your Student,
    Marybeth Keigher

You have been more fruitful than all of the gardens and forest put together!!!!!
We hope it won’t be too long before you bring the Royal Princess to walk in the gardens.

You, as our Sakyong Wangmo, harvest Peace and Joy in the Kingdom.
We feel so privileged to have you in our lives.
You bring our Mukpo family closer together as a deep practitioner and loving example of compassion.
May you and your childrens’ reign be long, healthy and cheerful.

    All of our best wishes,

  3. Dear Khandro-la and Rinpoche,
I am so happy to read this letter from you and to hear that you all are doing so well. We cannot wait to see you and Jetsun Drukmo in Europe. Over here, we burst out in cheers and applause upon hearing the news during the Scorpion Seal Assembly at Dechen Choling. I hope you were able to see the short videos we sent. Our best to wishes and love to all of you!

  5. Dear Khandro Tseyang,
Thank you for your letter and your kindness in keeping us posted about beloved Jetsun Drukmo.
We are all so moved by this experience and our grateful that she is a part of our Shambhala family.
I feel too that she will greatly benefit the world. As an astrologer, I have looked at her chart, which indicates that she has a very powerful purpose in this life, as we might expect.
We in Seattle are sending our deep heartfelt love and good wishes for health and well being to your new daughter, and to you and to the Sakyong. We appreciate the news you have shared!
