Sakyong and Family, Shambhala News ServiceThe Sakyong in Deep Retreat
The Sakyong has arrived in Pharping, Nepal for a period of strict retreat to conclude his year of retreat. He asked that the following update be shared with the community. It is followed by photos of the Sakyong on retreat in Nepal and the Sakyong on retreat with Jetsun Drukmo before he departed Boulder, plus a photo by the Sakyong of the Himalayas.
Flying into Kathmandu on a clear day, the Himalayas shone like diamonds reflecting the Great Eastern Sun. As the Sakyong entered the final portion of his year of retreat, the dralas seemed to dance on the tips of these majestic mountains. The green hillsides of the Himalayan foothills and the crisp summit of Mount Everest offered an appropriate foreshadowing of the temperate days and frigid nights of winter in Pharping.
Having spent the last six months alternating deep retreat and spending time practicing with the newest member of the royal family, Jetsun Drukmo Mukpo, the Sakyong has entered again into strict retreat for the remainder of the year of the Iron Tiger.
On his arrival at Rigon Tashi Choeling, the Himalayan monastery of His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rinpoche, he was greeted with ritual gyaling horns, drums, and clouds of juniper smoke.
Rinpoche extends his love and blessings to the entire Shambhala sangha and all sentient beings as he embarks on the final phase of his retreat.

Dear Rinpoche:
I’m so very appreciative of the practice that you introduced us to at Scorpion Seal Year One last summer. I do it before the Werma Sadhana and think of you being on retreat at the same time. It is most gratifying.
My very best wishes for your retreat! With devotion and love, Judy

The relaxed and somewhat tired look of father on your face brings you deeper into my heart. She must be wanting to sit up just now, this Princess. The Royal nature and presence is such a gift to the human beings that we are. Thank you, Father Guru. Thank you Mother and Daughter.

So many arrows , so well shot, they always land in the perfect place.
Dragons on those mountains peek out to see who is passing by, and the
shining earth is smiling, so joyfully smiling.
Ear to ear!

Much love and thanks to you Sakyong!
You are such a bright light in the world!
I dreamt you were with your child on the side of a mountain. I was afraid of the steepness, but you were both perched calmly and happily on a ledge, enjoying each other’s presence, and free from danger even though it would be so scary for me!
I woke up and remembered how important you are to me, how important the Dharma is, how precious my life is.
Thank you for helping me wake up, even in my dreams!
May your time in Nepal be auspicious and filled with positivity!
Thank you.
