Shambhala Day in Boulder was one for the record books. It was a very significant day for the Shambhala community, as one participant shared, “It really felt like a new era.”

The highly anticipated celebration ushering in the Year of the Wood horse was a standing-room-only event with more than 500 people in attendance, making it the largest Shambhala Day gathering in Boulder in recent memory. “The growth and strength of Shambhala was palpable,” another participant shared.

The Main Shrine Room and the Shambhala Training Hall were both filled to capacity, with everyone eager to celebrate with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, the Sakyong Wangmo, Dechen Choying Sangmo, Jetsun Drukmo, Jetsun Yudra, Lady Konchok and members of the Mukpo and Ripa families, as well as dignitaries from across the mandala.

Before Shambhala Online’s international broadcast of the Sakyong’s address, the morning began with a Shambhala Sadhana Feast led by Acharya Daniel Hessey. It was among the first times the Boulder community has been able to practice the Sadhana together as a sangha.

After the international broadcast concluded, the community filed past the Sakyong’s throne to receive a blessing while Acharya Mitchell Levy handed out protection cords, and President Richard Reoch offered an upbeat Shambhala Day greeting and handshake to everyone as they made their way back to their seats.

Many people remarked that this was among the best Shambhala Day celebrations ever at the Boulder Shambhala Center, full of warmth and cheerfulness, made even more special because we were able to celebrate with the Sakyong and Sakyong Wangmo in person. “You could feel the momentum of the work the Sakyong and the community has done over the last few years,” said one person. “It felt like a very significant day,” said another.

We truly wish everyone in the mandala could have been here with us. Please enjoy photos of the celebration taken by Marv Ross and Pablo Coddou, who worked tirelessly all morning to capture the mood and special moments of the celebration.

Wishing everyone a Cheerful Shambhala Day from Boulder!
