“I’m a Runner”

Sakyong-Mipham-Rinpoche-Author-Photo-copy-e1404921367949-599x380Back in February, the Sakyong and Michele Moses from Runner’s World got together to talk about running, meditation, and deepening our experience of life. The article and video have just been published.

In the article, the Sakyong discusses the relationship between running and meditation. He talks about the challenges, effort and the joy of running.

As he says, “You have to pay attention to what you feel, aches and pains, inspiration and all of that self-reflection. Running is about awareness, staying in the moment. If you don’t, you trip.” He goes on to say that it’s “The repetition, the feet hitting the ground, the natural connection with breathing. The breath is very important in meditation.”

“There’s also,” the Sakyong says, “an element that after you run, there’s a sense of accomplishment; you feel like your life is meaningful. It’s a moment of clarity.”
