Year of the Wood Sheep
COLUMN: Poetry Space

In celebration of the approaching Year of the Wood Sheep, the Office of the Kalapa Court and the Office of Culture and Decorum and Poetry Space are pleased to announce the second annual Shambhala Day Poetry Contest.

As this is the 20th Anniversary of the Sakyong’s Enthronement, the theme for this short poetry contest is “Lineage.” As with last year’s contest, the winning entry will be read aloud during the Sakyong’s Shambhala Day Address on February 19th.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Entries should be no more than 5 lines; one entry per author
  • Email your entry to [email protected]
  • Please refer to “Shambhala Day Poetry Contest” in the subject line
  • Your entry should appear in the body of the email – please, no creative spacing or font selections (these make more work for your loyal Poetry Coordinator as we must remove these before forwarding the poems to the editors)
  • All entries must be received by February 2nd
  • While time is short, we hope to be able to meet or exceed the response to last year’s contest. Please join us in this celebration of “Lineage”!!

“Whatever comes out of the mind,
      Regard not that as poetry.
      When the true poetry comes,
      No such question exists.”
