Community ArticlesBoulder Celebrates Sakyong’s Birthday
On Saturday night, November 20th, the Shambhala sangha in Boulder gathered for the Sakyong’s Birthday Celebration and Fundraiser, an evening of good cheer at the Boulderado Hotel.
The inspiration behind the event, according to the organizer Rose Sposito, was to celebrate the Sakyong’s birthday and to raise money for the rest of his year-long retreat. The event was also intended to bring the community together in celebration of the path of practice and the creation of enlightened society, which includes social and cultural events.
After cocktails and a sumptuous buffet, Sol Halpern conducted a live auction, assisted by Betsy Railla. Auction items included a week in Akumal, Mexico; artwork by Cynthia Moku; and a set of four prints of TAK SENG KHYUNG DRUK (tiger, lion, garunda, dragon) calligraphies by the Vidyadhara, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
The sangha came together beautifully to make this a successful endeavor. The party netted $32,000 toward matching $108,000 pledged by the Kalapa patrons for the Our Future campaign.
The evening ended with dancing to the salsa rhythms of Onda.
