October 2024

A Message from the Director and the Team at Gampo Abbey

Just a few weeks ago, we celebrated the gate-closing ceremony for the three-year retreat. Eleven people have journeyed along a path to this moment and are eager to settle in to begin this first section of ten months. This is the ripening of many years of practice and preparation. We were delighted to have Dungse Lama Pema, Head Monk of Thrangu Monastery in Vancouver and close student of our late Abbot Thrangu Rinpoche, here to confer the abhishekas to begin the three-year retreat.

We have a new online course that will start in just a few weeks and is based on Pema Chödrön’s teaching in Yarne 2024. If you’ve always wanted to participate in a Yarne monastic retreat at Gampo Abbey (and for many people who aspire, it’s just not possible), then this is a great opportunity. Consider making this your personal Fall retreat.

We are also delighted to welcome two returning residents who will take up roles in the leadership team of the Abbey. K-Tso Peters and Jayasiddhi Jameson have spent five years at The Hermitage of the Awakened Heart in North Wales and are coming home to Gampo Abbey again. You’ll be able to read more about their inspiration to return.

—Trinkar Ötso, Director
