Sakyong and Family, Scene and HeardPassing of a Kasung Dog
From Lady Diana Mukpo and Acharya Mitchell Levy: Winston Mukpo-Levy, also known as Mitchell’s Witless Winston or “Winnie”, died on April 7th, at 10:20 a.m. He ended his life as he lived it, with determination and dignity. Everyone who met him had a story about him. His first trick was “look dumb” which he did with adorable aplomb. He was a great guy, a fabulously hyper puppy, leaping over broomsticks, sliding down the stairs on a mattress and twice leaping out of second story windows. He hated being left alone, and leaving him thus was rarely without cost. Winnie’s other title was “Kasung Dog”. He attended around eight Don Season Retreats, a Magyal Pomra Encampment and one full Warriors Assembly. He loved to drill and many of us have memories of Winnie’s “finer moments” during drill. He always made an entrance and was not one to be ignored. He would bang through closed doors, bark until he was paid attention to and, in general, insist on being wherever the action was. Later, as he aged, he became a willful old man, determined to stick to his routines in spite of the discomfort from his arthritis, doggedly climbing up to the higher floors to barge into bedrooms. He was always a gentleman, but delighted in the pursuit of romance. Winston fathered three litters of puppies. He was infuriating and delightful and a genuine and wonderful presence in our lives.
