Arts and PoetryThe Power of the Feminine
A Poem By Joan WhitacreTo the soft power of the feminine
gently stroking all closed hearts to yield, to care
for water’s sweet taste
for breezes’ balmy caress
for grasses’ willowy waving
for fire’s radiant glowing
for all sentient beings’ cooing, laughing, peeping, crying.
To the tough power of the feminine
firmly cutting to the heart of all hearts
to reveal and to acknowledge
the water’s wild flowing
the wind’s fierce howling
the earth’s wounded body
the fire’s uncontrollable devouring.
To the soft, tough power of the feminine
to proclaim and to honor
truth’s exposing light
suffering’s raw flesh
living’s pulsing blood
dying’s sweet, fearful, sad yearning.
May this soft, tough, invisible, invincible power
give birth to
all the love
all the peace
all the truth
all the beauty
all the richness
all the abundance
that exists already in our heavens
may it all come down to earth.
