Executive Director of Karmê Chöling Appointed
The Kalapa Court is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Myra Woodruff as the new Executive Director of Karmê Chöling. Ms. Woodruff has been a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for over twenty years and last year was appointed Shastri for Burlington, Vermont. She has over thirty years experience as a Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist. She has a heart connection with Karme Choling, having attended her first dathun there in 1988, and staffed or taught programs since 1995. Ms. Woodruff was offered the position of Executive Director of Karmê Chöling by the Sakyong after the Kalapa Court Process was used to evaluate all of the applicants.
The Sakyong has expressed his wish that Ms. Woodruff continue the current vision for Karmê Chöling, by leading and inspiring the staff to maintain the standard of excellence of their current work and also develop new initiatives to strengthen Karmê Chöling’s connections and collaborations with those beyond Shambhala community. She looks forward to supporting and encourage these efforts with the northeast and extended sangha, working together to create opportunities for the Shambhala Principle to flourish.
Deep appreciation is extended to the outgoing Director, Ms. Jane Arthur, who has graciously served in this role since October 2006, beyond her original term. Through her steady grace and keen leadership, Karmê Chöling — the place she likes to call “the Jewel” — has survived and thrived. As director, she met challenges with an inclusive, forward-looking energy and wisdom, evidenced by her many accomplishments. Auspiciously for Karmê Chöling and its community, she and her partner, John McClung, have made the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont their home.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Ms. Woodruff as she enters her position and thanking Ms. Arthur for her years of devoted service.

She has always brought to mind for me the medieval Irish warrior queen, Macha of the Red Tresses. First encountered in Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party many years ago. Congratulations, Myra and Karme Choling!
