Casa Werma Seeks Director

México’s Shambhala practice and retreat center searches for a new Executive Director

Casa Werma is a designated lineage site protected within the Shambhala International land-center mandala. Located in the center of Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, México, it is here, in 1980, that the Druk Sakyong, Trungpa Rinpoche composed the Roar of the Werma sadhana. Casa Werma operates as a meditation retreat and practice center, offering Shambhala programs and opportunities to explore the teachings to students in the region as well as from the United States, Canada, and South America. In the summer season it also operates as a bed and breakfast.

The Executive Director is responsible for operating and developing Casa Werma in accordance with Shambhala vision and principles of enlightened society, within the context of this land center’s unique qualities, history and cultural environment. They also contribute as a regional leader, supporting the Mexican sangha and emerging South American region.

The Executive Director has the support of the Casa Werma Advisory Committee.

Core Responsibilities:

  • develops and implements programming and practice opportunities for all levels of practitioners
  • provides support to teachers and program participants
  • oversees the maintenance and development of the estate’s property and gardens
  • manages and disseminates communications
  • ensures Casa Werma’s financial stability as a self-funding not-for-profit organization
  • develops, maintains and implements all administrative and record-keeping systems, such as bookkeeping, registration, databases, and guest services.
  • ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • develops and maintains strong relationships with the community
  • plans for the long-term sustainable development of Casa Werma to preserve its unique features and enrich the manifestation of the drala energy of the lineage, and Mexican and indigenous cultures, with the guidance of Casa Werma Advisory Committee and the Sakyong’s Advisory Panel on Shambhala Environment

Qualifications

  • loyal to the Shambhala vision and teachings
  • personal commitment to the Shambhala dharma having completed Warrior Assembly
  • proven leadership skills
  • experience in organizational and financial management, facilities operations and management, as well as guest services
  • fluent in English and comfortable in Spanish (oral and written)
