Shambhala Day Info: Year of the Iron Ox!

From the Editorial Team: This article is an invitation to the live broadcast of Shambhala Day 2021: The Year of the Iron Ox, and contains information about many other Shambhala New Year gatherings and events.

Shambhala Day Live Broadcast

This year Shambhala Day is on Friday, February 12. The theme of the live broadcast is Celebrating Shambhala Culture and will have a particular focus on Shambhala contemplative arts and culture. Presenters will include Acharya Arawana Hayashi, Acharya Dan Hessey, and arts and culture features from Centres and Groups around the world.

Programming elements will include a lhasang, Kyudo shot, Ikebana demonstration, tea ceremony demonstration, calligraphy exhibition, and Miksang presentation. This will truly be a celebration of our rich Shambhala culture.

The official live broadcast will be on February 12 and will begin at:

  • 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time
  • 11:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time
  • 12:00 p.m. Central Standard Time
  • 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time
  • 2:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time
  • 6:00 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time
  • 7:00 p.m. Central European Time
  • 5:00 a.m. Australian Eastern Daylight Time (Saturday, Feb. 13)
  • 7:00 a.m. New Zealand Daylight Time (Saturday, Feb. 13)

New This Year: Dön Season Programming

This year, Shambhala Global Services and Shambhala Online are introducing a line-up of “Shambhala New Year Programming” that will occur in the dön season days before Shambhala Day from February 1-10. This free online programming will feature daily talks by senior teachers in our community about the different protectors in our tradition and the history and tradition of the mamos chants, and will be followed by group recitations of the mamos chants.

Presenters for these “dön days gatherings” will include: Tom Berthoff, Francesca Dalio, Marian English, Acharya Dan Hessey, Kristine McCutcheon, Acharya Fleet Maull, Acharya Mathias Pongracz, Ute Reinhardt, John Rockwell, Shastri Will Ryken, and Toby Sifton.
