Farewell to the Marvelous Dhi Good

In 2012, after six years at the helm of our established, yet still fledgling, Shambhala Online, I was ready to retire and hand over the reins to the next generation of techno-savants, those visionaries who would play in the “big leagues” in the then exploding online universe. The director position was announced in the fall of that year. When I first connected with Dhi Good soon afterward, I knew we had found the next director for Shambhala Online. Her kind, open demeanor, and relaxed Texan style instantly engaged me.

A Future Studies graduate and experienced online educator, Dhi was exactly what was needed to take Shambhala Online to the next level. I felt confident that the hard work of getting Shambhala Online off the ground in 2007 would be honored and built upon, and would, in fact, take off, just as it did.

In less than four years, Dhi managed to grow the service and increase revenue significantly. At its peak, there were nine paid employees and many volunteers across the mandala. Dhi further developed the local broadcast sites allowing continued live sessions to be streamed as well as recorded for future use. She skillfully leveraged the evolving technologies to improve the service and expand our offerings in multiple ways making it easier than ever to stay connected with the teachers, the teachings, and each other. Recognizing the need to stay on top of the burgeoning field of online learning, Dhi partnered with expertise from within the Shambhala community to bring community events and teachings to the global sangha. Working closely with videographers, media services, web developers, and translators, Shambhala Online paved the way for our worldwide community to connect across time and space in unity with our brilliant teachings.

Some of you may remember the early days of Shambhala Online when video conferencing was still an unfamiliar and uncertain entity, when buffering was commonplace, and locating the “talk button” was an exercise in patience and perseverance. Today, with Dhi’s fearless and agile leadership, Shambhala Online is straightforward, almost seamless, and part of our everyday existence. Through her commitment and dedication to service and her love of the Shambhala teachings, Shambhala Online has grown and prospered. One of the best aspects of working with Shambhala Online is the privilege of connecting with so many people across our worldwide Shambhala mandala. No doubt many of you have enjoyed connecting with Dhi Good over the years and, through her, have found your online comfort zone.
