Sakyong Appoints New Shastris

Lights in the Forest

Lights in the Forest

The Office of the Kalapa Court is pleased to announce that the Sakyong, Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche, at Shambhala Mountain Center, has formally appointed two new shastris. The position of shastri was created by the Sakyong in 2009, and there are now over eighty shastris serving the international mandala. By all reports, the shastri program is a great success, providing local support for teachers, programs, and meditation students. Please welcome our newest shastris to their positions:

Mr. Nick Kranz, assigned to Boston, met the Sakyong in 1999. He has been the continuity director of the 30’s and under group at the Boston Center during the last decade. He is the founder of http://www.mindfulinthemidst.com which offers meditation classes to businesses and organizations as well as mindfulness life coaching. He is also currently assisting a start up company http://www.somethinggud.com which delivers locally produced sustainable food to your door.

Ms. Lisa Hill, assigned to Vancouver, British Columbia, first met the Sakyong in 2006. Her volunteer and contract work, in the area of housing and poverty activism, led her to the field of frontline social service support work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside; working specifically with marginalized populations who live with concurrent mental health and substance abuse challenges. Lisa currently resides at Shambhala Mountain Center and is the Director of Community Care. She will return to Vancouver to begin her work as a shastri at the end of the year.
