Shambhala News ServiceCeremonies for Shibata Sensei XX
Kyudo master Onyumishi Kanjuro Shibata Sensei XX, who passed away peacefully Monday at the age of 92 in Boulder, Colorado, will be cremated this Friday at noon at Shambhala Mountain Center. This will follow a 7am Sukhavati led by Vajra Rich and members of Sensei’s family at the Boulder Shambhala Center. Both the cremation and Sukhavati ceremony are open to all. On Tuesday the Sakyong, Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche, held a private practice and ceremony for Sensei at Zenko Iba.
Shibata Sensei transmitted the heart of genuine Kyudo to his Western students in accordance with the vision of warriorship in the world which he shared with the Sakyongs. As an incomparable teacher and a treasured master warrior of the Kingdom of Shambhala, he will be deeply missed. A Sukhavati ceremony will be held Friday in Halifax, and may be held throughout the community by those wishing to honor Shibata Sensei.
A “Warrior Tribute” is posted in the Shambhala Times with a biography of Shibata Sensei and an opportunity for students to post their remembrances and tributes.
