Children’s Day Song

A lively tune to share in cheerful celebration

from Jay Lippman

In preparation for the Children’s Day celebration at the West Chester Shambhala Center, center member, mother, musician, and music therapist Carin Smith, along with technical assistance and support from Center Director Alice Goguen and member Jay Lippman, composed this song.  It is set to the melody of Jingle Bells, to be sung with the children on Children’s Day.

Children’s Day!
(Sung to the tune of Jingle Bells)

Dashing through the snow
Gomdens on our sleigh
It is time to sit and cheer
For our Children’s Day.
The shrine is bright and lush
Sight sound smell taste and touch
So come and see the king and queen
Who love you very much.
Chorus:
Oh
Children’s Day, Children’s Day
Today is Children’s Day!
Oh what fun it is to be
With you on Children’s Day, hey
(repeat)

Our center is the space
For community, the place
To learn about Shambhala, and
Basic goodness ways
So feel your senses play
Relaxing all the way
It’s time for us to celebrate
The winter solstice day, Oh

Children’s Day, Children’s Day
It is Children’s Day!
Oh what fun it is to be
With you on Children’s Day, hey
(repeat)

The darkest day is here
Nothing left to fear
Lion tiger dragon and
Garuda bring us cheer
Each day there’ll be more light
And shorter all the nights
Until the summer sun arrives
And keeps us warm and bright.
Oh
Children’s Day, Children’s Day
It is Children’s Day!
Oh what fun it is to be
With you on Children’s Day, hey
(repeat)
