A Nourishing Harvest of Peace Gathering

Harvest of Peace is one of four annual Nyida Day celebrations in Shambhala culture. Each of these holidays mark the changing of the seasons, hence the name Nyida Day (Nyi = sun and Da = moon).  This seasonal transition, the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern hemisphere, occurs officially on September 22nd this year, although many local celebrations may take place on September 19th or 20th.

Harvest of Peace is a time where we foster closeness and community in local sanghas, with practice and seasonal social events. We know that while in-person Harvest of Peace gatherings may happen in some parts of the world, many of you will be gathering together online this year. This is still powerful and nourishing, and during this ongoing time of uncertainty and groundlessness for our community, just being together online to practice and enjoy good company can be a great offering of sangha for each other.

A Harvest of Peace Themed Sunday Gathering

In addition to any online or in-person gatherings that local Centers and Groups are hosting, Shambhala Global Services and Shambhala Online are offering a one hour Harvest of Peace themed Sunday Gathering for the global community on Sunday, September 27 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern.

The Sunday Gathering event description follows:

Join Marcella Friel for a cooking demonstration featuring typical foods of harvest bounty, along with a conversation about the importance of meal prayers and blessings. Harvest of Peace is the time of year when we celebrate the abundance of the earth, and there is no better way to honor the harvest season than through an appreciation of good food and sangha fellowship. You are also invited to bring food you have prepared to share on screen, so bring your harvest time savoury dishes and cakes, pastries, and pies and to “share” with all those gathered!

Make sure to check with your own Center or Group about their local events, and a very cheerful Harvest of Peace to all of you!
