Shambhala Day 2023

This year, Shambhala Day was on February 21. Centres, Groups, and Members joined from around the world to share in a moving and joyful live broadcast. The theme for the Shambhala Day 2023: Year of The Water Rabbit Live Broadcast was “Reflecting on the Practice of Community.” Barbara Märtens spoke beautifully about the importance of community and led everyone in a group practice where we radiated out our love, care, and connection to our Shambhala sangha friends around the world. Hosting Centres for the broadcast this year included Cologne, Germany, as well as Lexington, Kentucky and Birmingham, Alabama in the Southeastern Region of the U.S.

There were numerous videos that were shared during the live broadcast, including: A Greeting From Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche from the First Shambhala Day Celebration in 1978, Shambhala New Year Greetings from Around the World, Qualities of the Water Rabbit, Tonglen for Ukraine, A New Group Forms in Tbilisi, GA, An Update on Community Catalyst Grants, and Introducing the New Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche Digital Library.

There were also beautiful cultural offerings. Daniel Monroy Reyes from Lexington played two stirring original compositions on the guitar titled Hopeful and Sunburst. Calligrapher Barbara Bash led the community in the creation of a collective calligraphic art piece that can be seen below. It was a wonderful time of celebrating community, our shared love of practice, and the Shambhala teachings and culture.
